I… don’t understand if this is a real question, but I’ll answer it anyway because I prefer to have an in-depth conversation. Empathy and compassion are what help us connect to people around us, to feel their pain as our own and therefore awaken a kinship that otherwise wouldn’t be there and isolate us. I know from experience that sometimes having low empathy can be easier, particularly for one’s own mental health. Sometimes taking on others pain and struggles can be difficult, but ultimately it makes human connection much more fulfilling and worthwhile.

I’m reminded of a nice one-liner I had for my dad shortly after the election. He was proudly showing off his brand-new airport book “If Democrats had any Brains They Would Be Republicans” to which I shouted, “If Republicans had any empathy they’d be Democrats and they would give a shit about the people around them!”

The difference between someone without empathy and someone with is as simple as ‘me, me, me’ and ‘us, us, us.’ I’m selfish too. I act without remorse and empathy sometimes, but they are things I believe we should always strive for.

The second question of your really puzzles me. I don’t particularly remember saying things against mentally ill people, unless you are talking about my discussion about homophobia, thus equating homophobia/homosexual = mentally ill. But that would be unfair because I would rather not put words into your mouth. :3

To REALLY answer your question if I hate mentally ill people, you would have to ask my grandma who has early stages of dementia and depression. I go over to her house every day to take care of her. I’ll ask her now.

“Grandma, do I hate mentally ill people?”
Her: “No. That’s kind of a weird question.”

Agreed grandma. Agreed.

ill make this EXTREMELY CLEAR: low empathy isnt a choice

fun fact: there are actually a lot of disorders that do cause low empathy and i think thats why anon added that in

i… feel like youre hinting at “empathy makes human connection more worthwhile!” which really is a huge fuck you to people w/ low empathy

and considering we (yes, im also low empathy) dont even choose to have our level of empathy makes it… even worse on your part

“ To REALLY answer your question if I hate mentally ill people, you would have to ask my grandma who has early stages of dementia and depression. I go over to her house every day to take care of her. I’ll ask her now. “

is that…really necessary honestly one opinion doesnt speak for everyone !!

“ I act without remorse and empathy sometimes, “ again, equating no empathy with being bad

also nice going comparing republicans to people w/ low empathy lmao

You’re absolutely right. In my answer I neglected to think about those with low empathy due to a disorder or who are just predisposed that way. That is completely my bad. I had been speaking from my personal experience and it was an oversight on my part. In a reply I made reference a friend I had with low empathy and how she is every bit as worthwhile as those with high empathy. I had forgotten to add that to the original answer.

The part about my grandma I thought was funny because she was in the room and I thought her own quip would be warranted.

Sorry that you think the Republican comparison is too much. I would say in general a lot of them have no empathy though. It’s just an opinion. Truthfully, I am parroting a bit from The Young Turks news on YouTube where they constantly say Republicans have no empathy as evidence by the actions they take.

mmm its still bad to say that though, just bc someone does something shitty doesnt mean they automatically have low empathy. low empathy is just not being able to feel the same feelings as another

but thank you for the first bit of your response i guess
